Crispy Roasted Chickpeas (Garbanzo Beans): Recipe

Crispy Roasted Chickpeas, also known as Garbanzo Beans, are a delicious and healthy snack, but there’s one problem. Do you know which one? This snack is very addictive and when you start with a full bowl of roasted chickpeas, you just have to eat the whole thing. Please give it a try and let me know if you can stop even halfway through the snack. Here is a well-known and very simple recipe for making crispy roasted chickpeas, or Garbanzo beans if you prefer.

Recipe

Ingredients in this recipe

  • 1 can (425 g / 15 oz) chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust amount to taste)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1

  • Rinse the chickpeas with running water and drain. Allow to drain for a while or pat dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. If you have time, do it in advance.

Step 2

  • In a bowl, toss the chickpeas with the olive oil, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt and black pepper. Toss until the chickpeas are well coated. I prefer to mix all the spices in the oil first and then mix this mixture with the chickpeas.

Step 3

  • Turn on and preheat the oven to 200 °C (400 °F). Before it warms up, do the next step.

Step 4

  • Spread the seasoned chickpeas in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. It doesn’t matter if there are a few chickpea balls on top of each other.

Step 5

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the chickpeas are crispy and golden. Halfway through the baking time, shake the tray or stir the chickpeas with a wooden spoon so that they are still crispy and evenly cooked.

Step 6

  • Remove the baked and crispy chickpeas from the oven. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving. You can serve it pleasantly warm, but also chilled.

Enjoy crispy roasted chickpeas as a treat, a snack or use them in salads, soups and other great recipes with chickpeas. Feel free to adjust the spices according to your taste preferences. These roasted chickpeas are a nutritious and satisfying alternative to traditional snacks. If you like spicy treats or a snack, use any hot spices you like. Crispy baked chickpeas are delicious and their nutritional value is much better than some store-bought chips or other salty and spicy snacks.

Are Chickpeas and Garbanzo Beans the Same?

Now I’m being a smart girl, but my question was exactly the same. Yes, chickpeas and garbanzo beans refer to the same legume. Both terms are used interchangeably to describe the round, beige-colored edible seeds that come from the Cicer arietinum plant. Chickpeas are a versatile ingredient used in various cuisines around the world and can be cooked and consumed in a variety of ways, such as in soups, stews, salads or ground into flour to prepare dishes such as hummus or falafel. Whether you call them chickpeas or garbanzo beans, they’re one and the same, and I think they’re the perfect ingredient that we should be using more often.
